Monena design competition's product launch

In the spring of 2021, Summanen Oy organized a design competition, the aim of which was to find a stand-up coat rack suitable for the Monena brand for industrial manufacture and sale. The competition jury consisted of diverse experts in the field of furnishing, who have a strong vision and experience in public space furnishing, home furnishing, industrial manufacturing and furniture design. The jury decided on the winning work in the fall and the new coat rack is now ready. It will be launched today, January 10, 2022.

- The winning work corresponded excellently to the assignment and the design took into account industrial manufacturing and logistics. The product is up-to-date and has a light and clear design language, says Product and Design Manager Minna Salokannel.

Designer duo Rosa-Maria Tolvanen and Jani Luukkonen were responsible for the winning work. In addition to the prize money received from the profit, they signed a royalty agreement for the product with Summanen Oy.

After graduating as designers, Rosa-Maria and Jani have worked together and the continuity of the collaboration has been natural for them, thanks to a similar design philosophy. When designing the rack for our design competition, they said they initially started playing with different shapes and structures.

- We wanted a form that was as minimal and interesting as possible. The starting points for our design were practicality, airiness and the versatility of the coat rack, say designers Rosa-Maria and Jani.

The new coat rack is called the U-coat rack. It is suitable for both public spaces and home storage, and due to its elegance, it works as part of the interior design.
